Jeep Grand Cherokee Recall
Jeep Grand Cherokee 1993 model of sport utility vehicles’ 1.6 million units was affected when The
Chrysler Group announced a recall for it on February 15,2002. The vehicle could
make a sudden shift from park into reverse even if the engine is not running.
The dealers will install shift interlock on these cars. Also for the 1993 models,
25,000 are possibly affected by this recall because of eccentric cam adjuster
bolts that may

fail to attach due assembly misalignment. This failure makes the vehicle pull
to one side when braking, which may result to possible loss of control, to accident.
488,369 units more were possibly affected by government safety recalls for the
1993 model.
For Jeep Grand Cherokee 1995 model, the recall was due to the parking brake handle
release button that may separate from the parking brake handle assembly, making
the parking brake not to operate. The potential affected units may be 135,000.
For the 1996 model 167,000 are the possible affected vehicle units for the safety
recalls, 584,000 units for the 1997 model, and 8,900 for the 1998 Grand Cherokee
model.
